“Run like you’re running from the Germans!”

Marine Col. T. Shane “Rhino” Tomko’s boom rang out for the benefit of Cpl. Benjamin McCrosky, a.k.a. “Ski,” on his way to the starting line of one of Thursday’s final track and field races at the 2014 Warrior Games in Colorado Springs.

Much of the Marine contingent and lot of adjacent Air Force fans laughed, although we’re not certain they all got the joke (a reference to McCrosky’s Polish ancestry and that country’s past troubles with its neighbor).

But the colonel’s love for the Marines in his regiment, the Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment, was clear — “Ski” included.

“He’s competing in about everything we have. He’s just one of those quiet, unassuming guys. He’s a great guy. … They’re all great guys,” Tomko said.

“I have no bad days. I have none — because I’m surrounded by these guys.”
